No title - I'm just very angry right now!
The horrible news concerning the Gulf Coast causes me to wonder: Who comes to the aid of the United States when disaster strikes? Has the United Nations passed any kind of referendum to offer aid to us? Do our so-called allies abroad give any consideration to the fact we might need help?
I remember when the disasterous tsunami hit, the United States was severely criticized for not giving what was considered to be ENOUGH money and aid for the victims.
I got more than a little bit angry today when I received an e-mail from a friend? in which it was stated "It's about time Americans learn how to suffer a little bit." In fact, I could have wrung this person's neck if she had been within arms reach of me - I was that upset with her.
This posting may make some folks angy - so be it. I think it is a crying shame that countries of the world consider the United States to be their pocket book, but tightly close their minds, hearts, and wallets when we are in need. Makes me think strongly about the need for the United States to become an isolationist nation for a while. We might as well - we are isolated from the world today by their lack of concern for us.
If donations from outside our our borders have been made to America to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, it surely hasn't been announced on any newscasts I've viewed.
Micky Finn has spouted off!

Just wanting to know, where you are located, did you get hit hard, or mostly heavy rain and wind. I was worried, I have been checking all day to see if you had posted anthing. So glad you did. At least I know you are OK.
And you have a right to be mad, my husband also had his say on his blogs. He has several. And he posted the same thing on them.
I agree with you. I haven't heard if any outside help has been offered ... but it SHOULD be! WE help everyone ...
I also watched your blog the last couple of days to see if you had posted. I'm so glad to see that you did!
Now if only I would hear from my son. He lives in Atlanta and I don't think they had any problems ... but I can't reach him by phone. I have three numbers to call and neither he nor his wife are answering their cell phones ... and their house phone isn't being answered either.
Magnify my concerns by millions of people wondering about THEIR loved ones IN the area affected and you can only begin to get a glimmer of what people are going through.
Its simply horrible!
I enjoyed your post! I surfed in through blog explosion.
I so agree with you. We have been giving hand outs to other nations for so long now, that it has us broke. If we collected on some of the debt owed to us we would have a balanced budget. Time will tell if anyone will reach out to us, besides our own.
this might as well force america to:
1. Make good use of its own money and not wasting it on Iraq
2. Believe that it has to erase its monopolistic mindset
But still I will give you and all of your american families and all disaster struck people of the world my condolescence
Perhaps the perception is that the United States is a rich country - the tsunami-hit countries are not - and so it needs aid less. This perception is intensified since the US routinely turns down aid in times of disaster, most notably in the aftermath of 9/11. What's more, do you really think the press is going to cover assistance to the USofA from countries such as Canada, New Zealand or Luxembourg? Finally, there have been private donations from citizens all over the world.
The States isn't alone in this. My thoughts (and charity) go to the victims and their families, not to those who turn this into a statement on foreign policy.
Maybe these other nations are doing (or not doing) because they dont like Bush? Lousy way to make a statement. We all need help sometime. Politics should be put aside, we are all part of the world
the united states is one of the richest countries in the world. we have plenty of resources to provide to people in an emergency. the trouble is is that our government is so inept that they cannot get it to the people who really need help.
i have not heard a lot about other countries offering aid...but one that I did hear about was Saudi Arabia. They offered to help in any way that they could, including increasing oil production to make up for the loss of supply caused by the hurricane.
Also, Venezuela has offered emergency funds, fuel and is ready to send a humanitarian task force to help with recovery efforts.
no one helps america. your post made me want to throttle someone too. thanks for writing.
I read an article today with a quote form a South Korean woman who basically said that the USA being hit by such a catastrophe was no accident. It was our punishment for what's happening in Iraq. Hmm. Maybe we should withdraw our troops in South Korea from the DMZ and see what happens? I get really tired of hearing about idiots like that. It's really tempting to take an isolationist stance. Sometimes I wish we could just take care of our own and let the rest of the world fend for itself.
Canada had rescue and aid workers, equipment, and supplies ready to bring in and U.S. officials refused their help several days ago- maybe it has been resolved since then. Countries and citizens of other countries have donated to International Red Cross and Salvation Army and other relief organizations. I've learned never to rely only on broadcast or cable news networks for information.
I watched Condeleeza Rice on tv yesterday and she read from a long list of countries that have offered help. She was so proud and almost boasting that there WERE so many!
A reporter asked if a rumor that those offers had been refused was true. Her response was that NONE had been refused. Then the reporter asked if they had been ACCEPTED then? She said NO! None had been accepted 'at this time'.
Not only is the government of the USA arrogant ... but it is STUPID! And I do NOT understand it. The people of my country I LOVE ... the politicians in Washington I despise!
I think the UK, Australia, New Zealand, maybe Canada have offered help.
